We have been asked numerous times what there is to do in Playa del Carmen. Playa is a big small town with lots of things to do and see, in addition to the water activities available at your hotel.
Here is a list with some links to other articles we have written about our activities in Playa. Private guided tours can be arranged through Viator and Get Your Guide, or through local operators.
1
Playa del Carmen has a two-kilometer pedestrian-only street, Quinta Avenida, that is lined with shops, restaurants, and bars. A great place to take a stroll during the day or at night. Visit the iconic statue in the main park at the end of 5th Avenue.
2
Visit the Mayan Ruins in Tulum or Coba. Tours can be easily arranged through various operators.
3
Go snorkeling at Maroma or in Cozumel. Boat rides are required for both.
4
Take the ferry to Cozumel or Isla Mujeres.
5
Visit a cenote for swimming, other activities, and an understanding of Mayan culture.
6
Go to Akumal to swim with the turtles. This is another snorkel experience.
7
Visit Xcaret which is a natural amusement park with a beach, cenotes, butterflies and other entertainment. It doesn’t come cheap though.
8
Take a bougie catamaran from Puerto Morelos or Puerto Aventuras.
9
Go Tequila tasting in Playa with a tequila sommelier.
10
Deep-sea fishing can be arranged with various operators, but no guarantee of fish. Three and four-hour trips are available.
