The final stop on our grand tour of the Southeast was Asheville, NC. While we had long thought about visiting this much-talked-about town, our motivation increased when our son moved there in June. That made a lovely excuse to visit.
Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Appalachian History, and Famous Trains
The entire time we were in western North Carolina and Tennessee, we could look up and see the Great Smoky Mountains. The park is so vast with magnificent vistas, we thought we would tell you about the park and our experiences in this single article.
Concerts, the Lost Sea Cavern, and Gnomes in Knoxville
Knoxville is a small town without much going on, so after exploring downtown, we ventured out of town. We saw a cavern and an underground lake, and views of seven states.
Moonshine, Dollywood, and Some Strange Tuner Cars in Pigeon Forge
After Charleston, our next stop was supposed to be Gatlinburg, which we had heard about before. On the way, we saw a submarine and a bit of the Great Smoky Mountains. But Gatlinburg was a surprise, and we wound up staying in Pigeon Forge. Not a problem since our main goal was to go to Dollywood.
Beautiful Architecture in Historic Charleston
On our way to our next stop in Charleston, we decided to stop at Beaufort for an afternoon because I read it was a beautiful southern town. In Charleston, we stayed at a really nice Hilton timeshare, we saw all of the sites, and ate a few wonderful meals. What could be better?
