ADVENTURES, CHALLENGES, AND INSIGHTS OF A COUPLE IN EARLY RETIREMENT
The one place we couldn’t miss on our tour of southern Italy was Pompeii. From Sorrento, we spent the entire day climbing Mt. Vesuvius, walking around Pompeii, and finally getting lunch at a winery on the side of Mt. Vesuvius.
Another must-do activity when in the Naples area is to take a trip to the Amalfi Coast. We hired an English-speaking driver for the day and set off bright and early from our country home in Sorrento.
When in the Sorrento/Naples area, it is almost obligatory to visit the island of Capri. Our host was kind enough to arrange a full-day boat trip from Sorrento to Capri for us.
The next stop on our tour of Southern Italy was Sorrento. A lovely, if touristy, seaside town south of Naples. We took a very comfortable train from Rome to Naples.
Our roving retirement Roman Holiday continued for a second week, with yet more galleries, food porn, and a steamy Night At The Opera. I’m sure you want to hear and see what we ate in Rome, yum.
