ADVENTURES, CHALLENGES, AND INSIGHTS OF A COUPLE IN EARLY RETIREMENT
Our trip to Romania included a few days in Cluj in Transylvania. Several things prompted our current visit to Cluj: First, to show Mike my great grandfather’s grave in a small town close to Cluj called Dej. Second, I wanted to visit several UNESCO-fortified towns in the area of Cluj.
During our week in Bucharest, we decided to carve out a day to tour the Carpathian Mountains, about 2.5 hours north of the capital. It was an interesting day, visiting Dracula’s Castle and Peles Castle with a final stop at the popular enclave of Brasov.
Our Viking cruise ended with a full-day tour of Bucharest and then a night at the JW Marriott Grand Hotel. We had opted to stay another five nights in the Romanian capital to see it in more detail.
This article describes the stops we made each day on our cruise along the Danube. With Viking, there was an included tour each day. Most days we took the included tour but there were days when we decided to go it alone.
In the Budapest article, we told you about everything we did in the city including the tour offered as part of our Viking cruise. So this article is just about the cruise itself and how we came to be on the Viking Lif.
